The Mazda CX-3, Australia's defending sales champion in the increasingly diverse small SUV category, is one of the most engaging SUVs around. Available in a five-door wagon body shape, the CX-3 has four different grades to choose from – the NEO, MAXX, sTOURING and AKARI with each upgrade offering additional features. Which version of the Mazda CX-3 you choose really depends on what you want from your new car. Here we have summarised the differences between the models to help make your decision easier.
Mazda CX-3 Neo
The Neo variant is the most basic form, and thus the cheapest option, of the Mazda CX-3 range and comes with a 2.0 litre petrol engine and a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It is not available with a diesel engine and is a front wheel drive (FWD) vehicle. Standard equipment for the Neo includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), 16-inch steel wheels, cruise control, air conditioning, start/stop button, Bluetooth/USB, rear sensors, Hill Start Assist, power windows and mirrors and six airbags.
Mazda CX-3 Maxx
The next step up from the Neo is the Maxx, an excellent value car which includes Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, as well as a reversing camera as standard. Like the Neo, the Maxx has cloth trim, but this model and above also provide a leather-wrapped steering wheel, handbrake grip and gear stick knob, as well as a sunglasses storage box and 16-inch alloy wheels instead of steel. The Maxx is available as a petrol or diesel engine with manual or automatic transmission, but if you yearn for an all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle, you need to choose the combination of petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission for this model. The Maxx is also the only model which can give you the diesel engine, auto transmission and front wheel drive combination.
Mazda CX-3 sTouring
Offering more bang for your buck, the sTouring variant is available with a combination of cloth and Maztex trim – available in black or white leather. Additional features of the sTouring variant include keyless entry, Driver Attention Alert and traffic sign recognition as well as auto on/off headlights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding heated exterior mirrors, climate control aircon and a flip-up Active Driving Display. Bigger, 18-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, front fog lights and LED headlights also all come as standard on the sTouring. The sTouring model gives you a choice of either a petrol or diesel engine, a manual or auto gearbox and two or all-wheel drive.
Mazda CX-3 Akari
The top-line Akari model is the only one of the range to also offer high tech safety features such as adaptive LED headlights, Lane Departure Warning and front parking sensors. The Akari is also the only model to offer a 10-way power adjusted driver seat with memory function, lumbar support and heating for the most comfortable driving experience around, and is also the only model to offer a sunroof. Like the sTouring, the Akari model gives you a choice of either engine, gearbox and two or all-wheel drive.
