Table of Contents
2018 looks set to be an exciting year for car enthusiasts as the ever popular Mazda 3 is set for a refresh. Mazda has just confirmed the new specs for the 3, and it is sure to provide Mazda with an even greater sales boost in 2018.
Updated Kit
Mazda has updated the Neo, Maxx and Touring variants, so whether you’re looking for a Mazda 3 sedan or Mazda 3 hatch, you can look forward to a more impressive spec list.
The Neo variants are now labelled as Neo Sport, and these models have gained a 7.0 inch touchscreen to use the MZD Connect infotainment system. This is as standard throughout the range and provides DAB+ digital radio, reverse camera, two additional speakers and multi function command controller.
The Maxx has similarly been renamed and is the Maxx Sport. This trim level now has dual zone climate control, electric parking brake, automatic headlights and auto rain sensing wipers. The mid level Touring trim level now features advanced keyless entry. Higher spec variants will carry over unchanged.
Engine Options
The new Neo Sport, Maxx Sport, and the Touring Mazda 3 variants are all powered with a four cylinder, naturally aspirated 2.0 litre engine that produces 114 kW and 200 Nm, with the power driven through the front wheels.
As with the current 3, all the SP25 versions have step engine displacement, with the 2.5 litre engine being provided with a power bump to 138 kW and 250 Nm.
New Paint Tones
There are eight new paint hues that are available for the new 3 range. These include Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, Snowflake White Pearl, Titanium Flash, Eternal Blue, Sonic Silver, Machine Grey and Soul Red Crystal.
New Safety Gear
Range wide, the Mazda 3 has a suite of new safety gear including traction control and auto emergency brakes. The Maxx Sport models and above also gain reverse emergency brakes, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.
Boosting Sales
The Mazda 3 was ranked as the fourth best seller in Australia for 2017. The model racked up 32,690 units sold and finished behind the Toyota Corolla, Ford Ranger, and Toyota HiLux. It also was second in the segment beating out the Kia Cerato, Volkswagen Golf, and Hyundai i30 to trail the Corolla.
Mazda has had a strong start to 2018, outselling the Toyota by 425 units to accumulate 3201 new registrations in January. This is sure to be boosted by the launch of the new Mazda 3 to give Mazda a record breaking year.
