The 2018 Mazda 3 Range
Table of Contents
The Mazda 3 range is deservedly popular with Australian car buyers for a variety of reasons. It’s fun to drive, stylish inside and out, has excellent fuel consumption and there are two engine options available. If all that wasn’t enough, you can get a Mazda 3 sedan or hatchback. Every variant now has auto emergency braking (AEB) fitted as standard, and there are other active safety features on board. Let’s take a look at what the range has to offer so that you can make an informed choice.
The Basic Features
The Mazda 3 is available as a four door sedan or a five door hatchback. Both variants have front wheel drive, and the entire range is classed as a small car. Every model has a multimedia system on board that’s built around the 7” colour screen that is controlled via a dial located on the centre console. The screen displays all the settings for a variety of functions, such as the entertainment apps, the digital radio, and the reversing camera. There are USB and AUX ports, plus Bluetooth connectivity for your mobile devices. All of the audio is routed to a sweet sounding six speaker sound system.
The Safety Features
Every Mazda 3 has plenty of safety equipment on board, such as rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and powered folding exterior mirrors. There is also a hill launch assist system to control the brakes automatically when you need to start from a resting position on an uphill slope. There is also a smart city brake support system that uses cameras to detect a possible collision with a pedestrian or other vehicle, and then the brakes are applied evenly and automatically. There are six airbags, two in front of the driver and front passenger, a side airbag for each front occupant and a curtain airbag to protect the heads of both the front and rear occupants.
The Mazda 3 is Fun to Drive
Every Mazda 3 has G-Vectoring Control to make the car feel very responsive. Both the 2.0L and 2.5L engines can easily cope with city driving, and they have plenty of power for the highway. The six speed automatic gearbox revs freely, and the gear changes are precise. The Mazda 3 is a very agile car that’s a pleasure to drive, the ride is slightly soft, but there is more than enough for sharp cornering when required. The wheels are made from a light aluminium alloy, and there is a space saver spare wheel that has a maximum recommended speed of 80km/hr. The Mazda warranty has now been expanded to five years and no limits on kilometres.
